The "Road to Rio" passes through Clovis...

For the first time in history, the USA Track and Field Junior Outdoor Championships will be hosted by a K-12 school district, as the meet heads to Clovis Unified in June 2016. USATF’s event is a significant stop on the USA’s road to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janero, Brazil. Javelin, pole vault, long jump, discus, hammer throw, triple jump, sprints, relays and distance runs are all featured at the Meet. 600 of the nation’s elite track and field athletes ages 17-19 are expected to attend the multi-day meet. For the first time in 25 years USA’s Track and Field’s Junior Outdoor Championships are coming to the Valley. The last time this elite national meet was held in Fresno was 1990 when Fresno City College hosted the meet at Radcliff Stadium. While typically held in conjunction with the USATF Outdoor Championships, in Olympic years the meet is held as a stand-alone event showcasing many athletes contending for the 2016 USA Olympic team.
